Movie Night July 2015

This past weekend I had planned a movie night. I seem to be the friend of our group that finds the weirdest and lesser known movies and because of that, I have movies nights to share what I find with my friends. A few months back, I found a really good deal on a 100″ projection screen. I bought that solely to have these movie nights outside! Living in Southern California, you can pretty much have a movie screening outside any time of year.

The dates finally aligned with everyone and we had it planned….and of course….as my luck would have it, it rained. WE’RE IN THE MIDDLE OF A DROUGHT and it rained on the one day I was planning to do something outside with all my friends. The last time this happened was when I had my home haunt going on Halloween. It rained out of nowhere! I’m beginning to think the horror gods have something against me and bringing people together.

Anyways, a little rain won’t stop a horror movie party! We moved it inside and had just as much fun! We watched two movies; Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead and What We Do In the Shadows. Both of them were GREAT!

Ok first off, just look at that poster! How great is that? Second, it’s an Australian movie and in my mind, most horror movies made outside of the US are way better in so many ways. The tagline “Mad Max meets Dawn of the Dead” is what got me hooked and excited to see this.

The basic premise is that a zombie plague breaks out and a brother goes on a mission to find his sister…by any means possible. The kills were good. The gore was good. The perfectly timed comedic parts were good as well. It’s definitely a fun movie. They did some cool things with the

There were some things I didn’t like about it and those things ended up being major plot points within the movie. I just didn’t understand. They might have been explained and I had missed it since I was entertaining, but I don’t think so.

If you’re into fun zombie flicks and a fun movie, definitely give this a watch.

I didn’t know what to expect with this one. I had heard friends that have seen it say it was good, but that’s about it. I wished they told me more so that I could have seen it sooner. IT WAS FANTASTIC! Holy crap, I hadn’t laughed so hard in so long!

The movie is a mockumentary about 4 vampires, their living situation, and the “struggles” of being a vampire in a modern world. This was written and directed by the guys behind Flight of The Conchords. They even star in the movie as well!

The best is seeing normal, every day things, done by vampires who just can’t get it right. Struggles such as getting dressed for the club and how they look (since they have no reflection), a chore wheel, and “turf wars” with the werewolves.

This movie is great for not only horror lovers, but anyone who loves to laugh. Highly recommended!
